Refining Your Style & Finding Your Style Icon

It is without a doubt that each generation has its share of celebrity fashion style icons. From the lovely classic Jackie Kennedy to the unique street Madonna, each icon has a crowd where people relate to their style. This is because these famous style icons provide people inspiration into their own personal style. Fashion worn by these icons certainly reflects their personality, and their influence has been tremendous as they layed the grid work of what we currently consider trendy.  With the new wave of style icons rising today, one can say that they have evidently been inspired by their predecessors. Check out the different style icons of then and now, their personal style and tips on how to refine your style accordingly.

CLASSIC

The classic style is timeless. It is a beautiful look that is simple, chic and has a soft look. The cuts are basic. This look seeks neutral and solid colors. Tailoring is important for this style, and so one whose style is classic is not afraid to spend extra money on clothing that will never go out of date. Ultimate classic fashion icons are Jackie Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot. Style icons following the footsteps of these ladies today are Michelle Obama and Anna Wintour. Their style has to at least include a soft white button-down shirt, a perfect blazer, well tailored pants, big shades and a beautiful scarf. They certainly seek elegance and the feminine edge in clothes. The little black dress, the suit, the trench, the pencil skirt, the breton stripped top, the ballet flats and the riding boots are also part of the classic wardrobe.

Tips:

Classic does not have to be boring. The trick is to play with proportions to make this look a little less conservative. Also, adding something unexpected to reinvent your style, such as a colorful wide belt, a printed scarf, or a unique bag.

BOHEMIAN

You like the free-flowing fashion where you do not feel restricted in your clothes but rather free-spirited? Well, this is what the bohemian style is all about. The flowing skirts and dresses, the long colorful necklaces, the gladiators speak boho-chic. The beautiful thing about this style is that it is wearable from day to night. The colors applied to this style include different shades of white and brown. They also include beachy colors such as turquoise and coral. Famous style icons who have defined this style back are Diane Von Furstenberg and back then Frida Kahlo. Today, the Olsensand the beautiful Margherita Missoni are reviving this style by focusing on some centerpieces in an outfit and going creative with them. Flowy skirts, fur vest, prints, kaftan, fringed bags, slouchy boots, colorful beaded accessories are all part of the bohemian style.

Tips:

This look if done from head to toe can be a little much. To refine your style we suggest adding more structure to your flowy outfit. For example, pair a blazer with your ruffled skirt, a crisp tailored trousers with your peasant top, or wearing a classical pump or bag with your outfit.

ECLECTIC

The eclectic style is mixing things together in such a way that you see yourself in it. It is very personalized. It could be difficult if creativity does not come naturally to you. But when it does, boy you’re style will be on fire! The lovely Audrey Hepburn is an example of such a style. With herlittle black dress, white gloves in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, ballet flats and her bold jewelry (mainly pearls!) she has definitely created a style of her own that many fashionistas today look up to. Today, Kate Moss, Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung have all created different styles for themselves, each that appeals to them personally. Moss is a bit edgy and daring, Palermo is sweet but sassy and Chung is just trendy (that girl jus goes for everything and gives it justice). All wardrobe items are included in this style as it is not one.

STREET

What makes this fashion so interesting is that it has emerged from the streets rather from theHollywood studios and the youth culture mainly represents this fashion well. What is also great about this fashion is that it includes many street styles: the hippies, gothic, punk, hip hop fashion and much more. There is freedom and more room for personal style in this look. Madonna andCourtney love best represented this style back in the 1980s and 1990s. Their sense of style and fashion is wicked as they set their own trends instead of following them, and thus it is ever-changing. Although their choice of wardrobe may be outrageous at times, yet this is exactly what makes their style so unique and popular. Ribbed body suits, cashmere pants and rubies and lace stitched into outfit are some of the things they wear. But really any item of clothing or accessories can be part of this awesome style. The British supermodel Agyness Deyn is following the footstepsof Madonna and Love where she takes freedom in mixing items together (for example, the classic with the punk fashion) and wear it with confidence.

Tips:

Take your inspiration from music styles and the underground movement. From hip hop and Rastafarian to punk and rock look back to when they started and you’ll see the real street wear.
